8th Battalion history
A brief history of the 8th Battalion has begun and is next to be added to this site when the different chapters have been written. As with the other histories on this site, they have been written by Kerchi, a humble enthusiast not a historian or specilist in this field of study, and so should be read with this in mind. However, this history has been aided by the work of Colonel H.C. Wylly, C.B., author of the definitive Border Regiment text of this time, The Border Regiment in the Great War, which without might not have been possible.
Keep your eyes peeled for the first part of this history and subsequent chapters in the future.
V.C.'s added and updated
Just a quick note to say that the previous V.C.'s from the old wiki site have been updated here along with a couple of new additions. All the V.C.'s now have their citations, which were located in the London Gazette archives. Each one has its own dedicated page laid out in a clear template providing some additional information and links to references and other sites of interest.
There are 10 V.C.'s listed in the V.C. index.

Border Regiment Books
The new menu item Category:Books brings together a comprehensive collection of books and other publications relating to, directly or indirectly, the 34th (Cumberland) and 55th (Westmorland) Regiments of Foot, the Border Regiment, and the King's Own Royal Border Regiment. There have been and still are many publications that give credit to the actions of the Border Regiment, however, and unfortunately, some of these have been out of print for many years and are now quite rare and highly collectible items. Publications of more recent times share the same passions and sentiments as their predecessors in providing diverse, truthful, powerful, energetic and sometimes disturbing, histories as their unique predecessors; for many people these texts bring home a new and unique view of the past.
About half of these publications are still available from online booksellers such as AbeBooks, Amazon and Naval and Military Press, Waterstones, Blackwells to name a few; the other half are out of print and mostly unavailable unless you are lucky enough to find one on an antiquarian bookshop, ebay (or other similar websites).
Each of the titles listed link to their respective pages where basic details such author, publisher, year of publication, no. of pages and ISBN numbers have been provided. Some pages will also give further details about the book and show an image either of the front cover or images from inside the book (usually from out-of-copyright books only).
If you own or have read, in whole or part, any of the books listed, this project would very much appreciate any help in providing information where it is needed! Also, please feel free to add any other publications you may find relating to the Border Regiment.

Transfer now complete!
The transfer of the pages from the old wiki site is now complete. All pages, with a few exceptions where some pages were no longer needed, are now in place on this site and can be browsed as normal. Anyone following links to the old site from a Google search etc., will be redirected to this site's home page instead.
To get the transfer completed before the deadline, some pages have been copied 'as is' and therefore still require some formatting, however, this does not detract from the page's information. I will be working on these (maybe a dozen or so pages) in due course in between adding new pages to the site.
If you would like to add content yourself, please register for an account.

Site transfer almost complete
The original transfer time was 5-6 months but this was brought down to 3½-4 months after getting through the pages quicker than anticipated. There are still a few pages to transfer from the old site, plus some more tweaking here and there, but generally, the transfer is almost complete.
Overall transfer should be completed by early February.
The site can be used as normal and changes made to any of the articles or the way the site looks should go unnoticed. Please feel free to browse and/or Register/Login. If you have any suggestions, let Admin know by using the 'Contact Us' page.
More soon!

Moving from one program to another can be a challenge, especially if you have hundreds of articles to convert before-hand. The Border Regiment Wiki Project has grown slowly over the last three years as one-man project to gather as much about the Regiment as possible through research and help from other enthusiasts. Having spent many hours working on the (old) site it was becoming evident that a move was foreseeable and with a little background checking to see if it was viable, the end result is this new site, which uses Mediawiki to run in a Wikipedia format. The look is marginly different to the old program but what can be achieved with this one is greater and therefore has more scope with adding articles.
The Border Regiment Wiki will continue in much the same vein as it has done so if you have visited the old site before you'll probably notice there isn't much difference between them. This is originally what I wanted mainly because the look of the site worked well before and this was something I didn't want to change.
