This site is dedicated to all those who served in the Border Regiment during the Great War who trained and fought for a cause greater than their own, many whom paid the price with their lives. The men of the Border Regiment saw a great deal of action on many different fronts, having fought in France, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Macedonia and Turkey.
The regulars were battle hardened, the pals battalions learned a lot in a short space of time and and fought like regulars and the Pioneers continuously utilised their skills to benefit the many ongoing operations. This war, which changed the way future wars were fought, challenged mentally and physically, not only the ordinary fighting men, but also those who were leading them.
With any war, mistakes were made and even with such terrible and futile losses it would be worthwhile to take a little time to pay our respects for everything that was accomplished and believe that the fight for freedom, even at such high costs, was the right thing to do.

8th Battalion history
A brief history of the 8th Battalion has begun and is next to be added to this site when the different chapters have been written. As with the other histories on this site, they have been written by Kerchi, a humble enthusiast not a historian or specialist in this field of study, and so should be read with this in mind. However, this history has been aided by the work of Colonel H.C. Wylly, C.B., author of the definitive Border Regiment text of this time, The Border Regiment in the Great War, which without might not have been possible.
Keep your eyes peeled for the first part of this history and subsequent chapters in the future.
V.C.'s added and updated
Just a quick note to say that the previous V.C.'s from the old wiki site have been updated here along with a couple of new additions. All the V.C.'s now have their citations, which were located in the London Gazette archives. Each one has its own dedicated page laid out in a clear template providing some additional information and links to references and other sites of interest.
There are 10 V.C.'s listed in the V.C. index.
